In the night a light shall rise

Dear Travelers,

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us think of the plight of millions of men and women, young people and children living under bombardment in countries torn apart, crushed by the weight of wars and other disasters caused by human foolishness.

In the night a light shall rise... Friendship will disarm all our wars...

Tenderness will blossom on our borders... A sun will rise on our calvaries.

These lyrics from the song by Michel Scouarnec titled People of brothers, they rise within us and echo what dwells within us. It is the cry of our hearts. It is our dream for the world.

Just as Jesus lived in worry and instability from his birth, we are shaken by the horrors and atrocities overwhelming our world. However, we are buoyed by the hope that a new day will emerge from the deepest darkness in which our world is plunged.

On this Christmas day, let us commit to being agents of peace, unity, and fraternity. The fragility and vulnerability of the Child in the Manger invite us to fight for the protection of life and for the integrity of Creation.

I wish you a Christmas that brings new momentum and a breath of hope to our hearts, our families, our Viatorian Community, and our World.

Peace! Light and Hope in the heart of all our darkness!

May the Jubilee Year 2025 bring us a new beginning on the long road of love and fraternity!
