As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us think of the tragedy of these millions of men and women, young people and children who live under the blow of bombings in countries left in tatters, crushed under the weight of wars and other catastrophes caused by human stupidity.

A light will dawn in the night… Friendship will disarm all our wars…

Tenderness will blossom on our borders…A sun will rise on our calvaries.

These words of the song by Michel Scouarnec entitled Peuple de frères (A people of brothers), rise in us and echo what lives within us. It is the cry of our hearts. It is our dream for the world.

Like Jesus living with worries and instability since his birth, we are shaken by the horrors and atrocities that overwhelm our world. However, we are carried by the hope that a new day will emerge from the deepest darkness in which our world is plunged.

On this Christmas, let us commit ourselves to being leavens of peace, unity and fraternity. The fragility and vulnerability of the Child in the Crib invite us to fight for the protection of life and the integrity of Creation.

I wish you a Christmas that brings new impetus and a breath of hope to our hearts, our families, our Viatorian Community and our World.

Peace! Light and Hope in the heart of all our darkness!

May the Jubilee Year 2025 make us take a new start on the long path of love and fraternity!
