Fr. Víctor CÁMARA CÁMARA, Vicar General

He was born on February 12, 1966 in a small town near Burgos, Spain. At the age of 14, he attended the juniorate of the Clerics of St. Viator in Valladolid. On August 15, 1986, he made his first religious profession and, eight years later, on August 15, 1994, he pronounced his perpetual vows.

He lived his first stage of religious life in the school community of Saint Viator in Valladolid. He lived there for seven years either as a student, novice teacher and philosophy student with the Dominicans. To this he added his social service, since he had declared himself a conscientious objector. He then studied theology for four years at the Pontifical Jesuit University of Comillas in Madrid. In this context, in June 1997, his Superior asked him to be part of the founding team in Jutiapa, Honduras. He was one of the first three Saint Viator clergy to arrive as missionaries in Honduras. On August 28, 1999, he was ordained priest by Bishop Ángel Garachana, Claretian Bishop of Burgos, who had welcomed the Viatorians to Honduras, in the presence of Father Léonard Audet, Superior General. He has been a missionary in Honduras for more than twenty-six years.

Pastor since 2007, after the departure of Father José Ramón Zudaire for the Father’s house, head of Serso Honduras since its inception in November 1998 after the devastating Hurricane Mitch, responsible for catechesis in the diocese of San Pedro Sula from 2005 to 2012, at the creation of the new diocese of La Ceiba, first Pastoral Vicar for three years of the new diocese, coordinator of the National Commission of Social Pastoral Ministry of Honduras, supervision of other emerging commissions such as integral ecology, Justice and Peace, women’s pastoral ministry, etc. On July 22, 2024 the new Superior General appointed him Vicar General. He made his profession of faith on September 1, 2024 in Vourles (France).
